The Creation of Diaspora in Jewish Antiquity

$24.95 $14.97

Megiddo VI

The 2010–2014 Seasons

$299.95 $179.97

Megiddo, a key site for the study of the Bronze and Iron Ages, is unique among the sites of the ancient Near East. Featuring remains from over 30 settlements, Megiddo is strategically located on the main highway of the Old World, leading from Egypt to Mesopotamia. It is mentioned in important verses in the Bible and in Egyptian and Assyrian texts. Beyond archaeology, it is of great significance to the fields of the history of ancient Israel and biblical studies. The Tel Aviv University excavations at the site aim, through the implementation of modern methods, to achieve a full stratigraphic-chronological sequence, while placing special emphasis on studies related to the exact and life sciences.

The Culture of the Sacred in Mesopotamia

Sébastien Rey

This two-volume study not only presents the new results of the British Museum team; it also reconsiders and recontextualizes the French reports to produce an indispensable history of the sacred complexes in Girsu over a period of nearly three thousand years. With full-color reconstructions of the principal buildings and installations, as well as many redrawn plans and sections, this lucidly written study reexamines the history of the exceptionally complete series of archaeological structures built on Tell K and Tell A from the beginning of the third millennium BCE to the fourth and third centuries BCE.

The Royal Inscriptions of Nabopolassar (625–605 BC) and Nebuchadnezzar II (604–562 BC), Kings of Babylon, Part 1

Jamie Novotny and Frauke Weiershäuser

Nabopolassar was the first ruler of the Neo-Babylonian Empire. Rising to power from obscure origins, Nabopolassar defeated the Neo-Assyrians, who had controlled Babylonia for more than one hundred years. During the reign of Nabopolassar’s son, Nebuchadnezzar II, the Neo-Babylonian Empire developed into a major superpower. Best known for his ambitious building projects, including the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Ishtar Gate, Nebuchadnezzar also figures prominently in the Hebrew Bible as the king who destroyed Jerusalem and its temple, conquering Judah and inaugurating the Babylonian captivity.

The Origin, Development, and Enduring Meaning of the Jewish Sabbath

Jon D. Levenson

“A masterful piece of scholarship. Levenson has somehow managed to combine a rigorous historical-critical analysis of the Sabbath with a theologically sensitive discussion of the meaning and value of the Sabbath as it has developed into the present day in a fresh, readable volume seasoned throughout with wit and good humor.”—Jason Staples, author of Paul and the Resurrection of Israel: Jews, Former Gentiles, Israelites
