The major questions of policy in matching the nation's educational system with its employment needs- during a period of rapid change for both- are explored here by eighteen authorities in public and private education, industry, organized labor, and government. Among the vital issues addressed are: the responsibilities of various educational agencies, career planning, the effects of the economic climate on career education, the use and misuse of certification and credentialism, the interface between general and career education, and the need for more "generalizable" education. The book's ultimate objective is to explore how the fullest and best education for both work and nonwork roles may be delivered in both traditional and nontraditional ways.
Thomas F. Powers is Professor of Organizational Behavior in the College of Human Development of The Pennsylvania State University. The author of numerous books in his field, he took his M.B.A. at Harvard and Ph.D. at Georgia State. John R. Swinton, Research Assistant in the College of Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University, has edited books on food service and blindness research, and written extensively on conservation.
